Rose City Mortgage Named Small Business of Year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (February 20, 2006)

Rose City Mortgage Specialists -- a Portland-based firm powered by socially responsible business ethics - has won the 2005 Oregon and Southwest Washington Business of the Year award from the Better Business Bureau. The Rose City Mortgage staff learned of the honor at a Feb. 3 awards luncheon at the Hilton Portland and Executive Tower.

"The Better Business Bureau is proud to name Rose City Mortgage Specialists the 2005 Small Business of the Year for their commitment to customer service, community involvement and innovative business practices," said Robert Andrew, president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau serving Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington.

Rose City Mortgage was selected from 11 finalists in the running for Business of the Year. Stahancyk, Kent, Johnson & Hook received the award for Large Business of the Year. Both firms received top marks for exemplary customer service, community involvement and innovative business practices.

"These winners don't just do 'business as usual'", says Andrew. "They strive for the highest standards of customer service and attempt to make a difference in their communities."

Rose City Mortgage gives back to the community in a number of ways. For example, Rose City donates $100 at the completion of each loan to a nonprofit of the customer's choice. In addition, Rose City and its employees actively participate in community events that benefit causes whose missions align with Rose City's and its customers' values. The firm also consistently applies green business practices.

"We are so proud to receive this award," says Rose City Mortgage President Renee Spears. "It validates the way we do business every day - by treating clients and employees with respect while honoring our own values."

These policies led Spears to recently receive the Orchid Award as a Portland Businesswoman of the Year. The firm also earned the Portland BlueWorks Award for reducing waste, recycling and buying recycled products.

Spears founded the mortgage brokerage firm in 1999. The firm, at 5200 S.W. Macadam Ave. Suite 300 in Portland, now has 14 employees and is licensed in Oregon, Washington and California.
